Chromosome 22 Ring is an unusual disorder identified by abnormalities of the 22nd chromosome. Associated signs as well as findings could be very variable from case to case. However, the disorder is usually related to moderate to serious mental retardation. Some influenced people may additionally have reasonably moderate, nonspecific physical (i.e., dysplastic) features, whereas others could have more distinctive, possibly severe physical abnormalities. Baseding on reports in the clinical literature, usual findings include reduced muscle tissue tone (hypotonia) and also electric motor incoordination; an unsteady fashion of walking (gait); articulated verbal delays; and/or particular malformations of the skull and facial (craniofacial) region. Such craniofacial problems could consist of an abnormally small head (microcephaly); upright skin folds that may cover the eyes’ inner corners (epicanthal folds); unusually big ears; and/or other malformations. Chromosome 22 Ring is typically dued to spontaneous or “afresh” errors really early in the growth of the embryo that show up to happen arbitrarily for unknown reasons.
